Civil Engineer – Residential Design
Fully Remote (UK-based)
Full-time / Permanent
Up to £45,000 per annum
We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with residential design experience to join this growing team. This is a fully-remote opportunity for a motivated and technically capable engineer who can deliver high-quality civil engineering solutions for residential developments across the UK.
You will be responsible for designing and coordinating infrastructure schemes, supporting planning and construction stages, and working closely with clients, architects, developers, and other consultants to deliver practical and compliant engineering solutions.
You will have strong experience in residential developments, including highways, drainage, and infrastructure design, and be comfortable managing projects independently in a remote working environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare detailed civil engineering designs for residential developments, including:
* Surface water and foul drainage strategies
* Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS)
* Earthworks and levels design
* Roads, highways, and access arrangements
* Utility coordination and infrastructure layouts
* Produce technical drawings, calculations, reports, and specifications
* Support planning applications and discharge of conditions
* Liaise with clients, local authorities, contractors, and design teams
* Review and comment on technical information from other consultants
* Assist with project delivery from concept through to construction
* Ensure designs comply with relevant UK standards, guidance, and regulations
* Manage workload effectively while working remotely and meeting deadlines
Skills & Experience Required
* Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
* Previous UK-based civil engineering consultancy experience
* Proven experience designing residential developments
* Strong knowledge of:
* Highways design principles
* Drainage design and SuDS
* Residential infrastructure layouts
* UK planning and adoption processes
* Experience using industry-standard design software (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage / Causeway Flow, or similar)
* Ability to prepare clear technical reports and engineering documentation
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently
Desirable Experience
* Experience with Section 38 and Section 104 agreements
* Experience liaising with local authorities and statutory bodies
* Experience supporting planning submissions
* Familiarity with BIM workflows
* Chartered or working towards chartership with Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
