This is a full-time, permanent leadership opportunity for an experienced practitioner ready to lead a high-performing department and drive academic excellence across the curriculum.

The Role

  • Leading and managing the English department, ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning, and student attainment across KS3, KS4, and KS5.

  • Designing and overseeing a stimulating curriculum that balances classical literature with contemporary voices, ensuring it remains challenging and inclusive.

  • Mentoring and developing departmental staff through professional learning, peer observations, and collaborative planning.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • A strong honors degree in English Literature, English Language, or a related field.

  • Proven experience as a successful teacher at all Key Stages, with a track record of achieving top grades at GCSE and A-Level.

  • Previous leadership experience (e.g., Key Stage Lead or Second in Department) or a clear readiness to step into a Head of Department role.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and a professional, resilient approach to school leadership.

  • A commitment to fostering student voice and creative expression within the subject.
