A highly regarded school near Tower Bridge Station is seeking to appoint an ambitious and talented Head of History to join its successful Humanities faculty. This role is to start in September 2026.

Job Overview

This co-educational school near Tower Bridge Station has an excellent reputation and a strong community ethos. The successful candidate will lead and develop the History department, delivering engaging and high-quality lessons across KS3 and KS4 (with KS5 teaching available where suitable).

Working closely with senior leaders and the wider Humanities team, you will drive standards of teaching and learning, oversee curriculum development, monitor student progress, and contribute to raising attainment and engagement in History across the school.

You will also be expected to promote extracurricular History opportunities, including educational visits, debating activities, enrichment programmes, and wider cultural and historical events.

Head of History – Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A degree in History or a related subject

  • A recognised teaching qualification with QTS (such as PGCE)

  • Experience teaching History across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)

  • Experience leading or supporting a department, faculty, or key area within History

  • A strong understanding of curriculum planning and assessment

  • The ability to inspire students of all abilities through engaging and challenging lessons

  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A passion for historical enquiry, critical thinking, and student achievement

  • The legal right to work in the UK
